Scope

Refurbishment and re-construction of Embankment Substation (a disused underground substation). This was part of London Underground’s Sub Surface Railways Upgrade Package 2.
The works consisted of:

• Demolition and removal of existing concrete and steel structures
• Structural steelwork strengthening of the gallery floor level
• Construction of new reinforced concrete basement and gallery level floors
• Construction of a new personnel access from street level
• Construction of a new high level plant access hatch at roof level including re-roofing
• Construction of a new fire escape route from basement level to street level consisting of structural steelwork, suspended concrete slabs to a high level corridor and new block walls
• Construction of new block walls up to 6m high to form new rooms and fire compartments
• Installation of various steelwork stairs, platforms and hand railing
• Installation of new fire doors
• Fire protection to new and existing steelwork
• Painting & decoration
